City and district rankings from federal incident data · 2021-22 collection
Bullhead City School District comes out safer than 99% of ranked US districts in the 2021-22 Civil Rights Data Collection. That is a statement about records. Five of the six schools in that district's scored set reported in enough detail that we could hold their numbers up against schools of the same size and grade range nationally, and what they reported held.
Start with your own school. The grade tells you whether the numbers underneath it are worth reading. A and B mean records we believe, and those are the schools that carry a published safety score — 1,251 of the 2,515 Arizona schools in this collection. C means a school reported almost nothing but is small enough that a genuine zero is common; not evidence of safety, but not implausible either. D and E go to schools where others of the same size normally report several incidents, or ten or more, and this one reported close to none. In Arizona, 299 schools land in that doubtful range, 11.9% of the state's schools.
The national share is 11.3%. Arizona sits close to it. Read that as a fact about paperwork, not about children. States differ in how they gather and submit these records, and our peer comparison is deliberately not adjusted by state — so a gap between Arizona and anywhere else describes reporting behavior, nothing more. A school we grade doubtful is a school whose records we cannot verify. It is not a school we are calling dangerous, and this data cannot support that claim about any school.
Arizona's schools are spread across 679 districts in this collection, and 65 of them have enough scoreable schools to rank. Ranking asks for several schools in one district whose records we can believe. Small districts, and districts where most schools graded C, do not reach that bar. Their absence here is the method holding a line, not a hole in the data.
Among the districts that do rank, Tempe School District comes out safer than 95% of ranked US districts, J O Combs Unified safer than 92%, Glendale Union High School District safer than 91%, and Queen Creek Unified District safer than 90%.
Percentile is against all ranked U.S. cities (higher = safer). Only cities with ≥5 trustworthy-data schools are ranked. Home value is Zillow's ZHVI.
