City and district rankings from federal incident data · 2021-22 collection
One of the districts ranked on this page isn't a place. Nevada's state-sponsored charter schools are grouped together as a single district in the federal data, so its ranking describes a category of schools scattered across the state rather than a set of neighborhood campuses. It comes out safer than 59% of ranked U.S. districts, and 34 of the 71 schools in its scored set had records complete enough to score. That mix of statewide reach and partial coverage is worth holding in mind before you read it next to Clark County or Elko County.
Here is what this page can tell you. It covers 769 Nevada schools from the 2021-22 Civil Rights Data Collection. Of those, 543 have a published safety score. The rest do not, and that is the method working rather than a hole in it. We publish a score only for schools whose incident records we believe. Where a school reported almost nothing, we say so and stop there — because "reported nothing" is not the same as "nothing happened."
43 Nevada schools fall into our doubtful-reporting grades, D or E. That is 5.6% of the state, against 11.3% nationally. Nevada schools were, on the whole, more likely to file records that look plausible for their size. That is a statement about paperwork, not about children. Our comparison is not adjusted for state, and gaps between states in this collection reflect how districts fill out federal forms — not how safe their hallways are. A school with a doubtful grade has records we cannot verify. It has not been found dangerous.
Nevada has 20 school districts, and 8 have enough scoreable schools to rank. Most of the state's districts are small and rural, and a district needs a real number of confidently graded schools before a ranking means anything. Even among the ranked eight, coverage varies: 338 of the 373 schools in Clark County's scored set could be scored, but only 6 of 14 in Humboldt County and 16 of 35 in Elko County. Lyon County, safer than 19% of ranked U.S. districts, was scored on 14 of its 20. Read a district rank as a summary of the schools we could verify, and read each school's own page for the rest.
Percentile is against all ranked U.S. cities (higher = safer). Only cities with ≥5 trustworthy-data schools are ranked. Home value is Zillow's ZHVI.
